As part of the Bonn Peace Days 2020, Conrad Schetter (BICC), together with Birgit Sippel (MdEP) and Koko Warner (UNFCCC Secretariat, head of the division “Climate Impacts, Vulnerability and Risks Division) will discuss threats and measures to compat climate and peace risks on 21 September at 18.00 hrs. The discussion, organised by BICC, Brot für die Welt, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) and Plattform Zivile Konfliktberatung, will take place online.
Climate change is already threatening the existence of many people today, especially in countries of the global South. Conflicts over resources such as water or pasture land are intensifying, extreme weather and natural disasters are robbing people of their livelihoods and driving them to flee. It harbours immense dangers and risks for peace. Climate change as a global challenge requires joint responses.
