In July, the third report of the initiative The World in 2050 was launched. The report „Innovations for Sustainability: Pathways to an efficient and efficient post-pandemic future“, published in July, is the third report written by the initiative The World in 2050 (TWI2050).
The latest report deals with the role of innovation for the benefits for human well being as well with its risks and constraints. It looks at the COVID-19 pandemic as a great and immediate threat to humanity and questions the current rate and direction of innovation to be sufficient to achieve the United Nation’s (UN) ambitious goals for an inclusive sustainable future for all, in part because of a relatively narrow focus on technology innovation without also addressing societal, institutional, and cultural innovation. It sees the need to rebalance so that all dimensions of innovation and invention are promoted simultaneously, including addressing inequities.
The TWI 2050 initiative was established by the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), DIE and other partners to provide scientific foundations for the 2030 Agenda. TWI2050 aims to develop science-based transformational and equitable pathways to sustainable development that can provide much needed information and guidance for policy makers responsible for the implementation of the SDGs.
