2020 Europe Sustainable Development Report launched
The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) published the Europe Sustainable Development Report on 8 December 2020. It is the second independent quantitative report on the progress of the European Union (EU), the Member States and other European countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which had been adopted by all member states of the United Nations in 2015.
The report comes at a crucial time in global sustainability and climate policy. The future US administration intends to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement. In addition to the EU, China, Japan, South Korea and other countries have now announced that they will reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by the middle of the century. With its Green Deal and the Next Generation EU plan based on it, the EU wants to embark on the path towards a sustainable future. Before the groundbreaking UN conference on climate and biodiversity in the UK and China at the end of 2021, the EU can seize the opportunity to work with other key actors to make significant progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
